Okay so here's my review. I actually love this machine. I gave it 4 stars only because people who are as out of shape as I was when I first got on this machine will know just how out of shape they truly are. This machine on level 1 kicked my butt! I am now able to do the max interval workout as well as the fat burn & calorie burn workout. I have had the machine a little over 5 weeks now and I have dropped 23 pounds. I am following the nutritional plan that is included in the manual with the M5 and can say it has helped a lot. I eat a lot more lean meats, load up on vegetables because they are a smart carbohydrate, more water than what can fill a pool, and stay away from snack foods and trigger foods. The base is actually sturdy, some people may not know they can adjust the feet on the bottom. I haven't had the squealing noise come from the machine so I hope that doesn't happen. The one problem I have with the machine is the app you use with the M5. It just doesn't work wright sometimes. My wife has an iphone 6 and I have an htc one max. So both android and ios have some issues that need to be worked out. I'm also am not sure the calorie counter is accurate because I was at 279 pounds when I started and now I am at 256 pounds now and I can tell you it sure feels a lot more than 180 calories being burned in 15 minutes, but hey it may be right.

The pictures in the mirror is where I am today. The one with my wife and a friend are when I was my heaviest. The black vest makes me look thinner but trust me I was bigger than what the picture shows.

Comments about Bowflex Max Trainer M5:

I'll preface by saying I've only been using it for 3 weeks. I had no idea I was so out of shape, I just had a stress test and they thought I was in great shape! I could only go for two minute spurts for the first two weeks so I did 14 minute workouts, my third week I was able to do 3 minute spurts so I'm up to 15 minutes. Next goal is to do 4 minute spurts and get to 16 minute workouts and then 5 minutes for 20 minute workout etc. Until I can build up to a 30 minute stretch. I haven't lost weight yet but I definitely feel like I will if I continue and stay with it... once I get into the routine I will begin to watch my eating (as long as history repeats which I sincerely hope it does!!) I am 49 years old, a smoker and I have about 30-40 lbs to lose.

This is a great way to lose weight and get in shape. I live in a house and 4 of us use the machine. This is a problem setting up workouts and personalizing the setups since it only supports 2 users. It would be nice to have more users or a guest setting so other people weren't using my user settings.

Is there any way to compact the machine when not in use, i.e. folding it up against a wall? The rooms in my house are rather small, so I'm looking for that option in an exercise machine.

Will I be able to manage the strides without causing much stretch or pain on my legs? Please advise. Thank you.

Is this better for Cardio than the tread climber?

Hi Gary! Each will burn calories equally. It's just a matter of how quickly you want to burn them. The Max Trainer is built to burn calories in the quickest way possible. The Treadclimber, while still burning calories at a fairly high rate, it burns calories a little slower.

For example, if you use each machine for 14 minutes you will burn more calories on the Max Trainer because the intensity is much higher. Some people aren't comfortable with this intensity and prefer something they can do with a little more ease. The important thing is that you get a machine that you will enjoy using.
