The M5 is more challenging and motivating than any other in-home cardio machine I've tried. I liken the exercise motion to charging up a hill while it is retreating away from you. The lower handle bars allow you stability and help you focus on your lower body, and the upper handle bars really engage the upper body, especially when shifting weight forward. It is fun to sprint as fast as you can, grind out a high resistance climb, or find the best combo of the two to get your max average calorie burn rate. The interval training is great, the other programs are nice for longer workouts, but for the money the best piece of technology is the calorie burn program. Say you want to burn between 15-20 calories per minute for thirty minutes. When you slow to the point where you are going to drop out of that range, the M5 automatically increases the resistance to increase the burn rate. Conversely, if you start going so fast as to exceed 20, it lowers the resistance to make the burn rate go down. The bluetooth app works great to keep a running log of your workouts with some nice graphs to show progress over time. The two cons of the machine are: 1) if you want to pause- you must stop completely in order to stay in a paused state or the machine will start going agin, and 2) cool down/ending- once a workout ends, it stops counting progress as you cool down; therefore you must either cool down during the program (it doesn't remind you to do this), or start another manual workout immediately after the program ends in order to keep counting calories for a few minutes was you cool off. I hope Nautilus can figure out a way to simplify this either as a firmware update or an update to the app. All in all, a great machine after three weeks. Its very sturdy and the frame is solid, so I don't expect to need warranty service. The footprint is small and you don't need much clearance when you are using the machine (I'm 5'11") Cheers! Great product!

The 14 minute interval is not nearly enough to be a complete daily workout- even when pushing it. If it's too good to be true- it probably is- certainly the case with this product. It's not terrible- but it's rather boring, and not any more challenging than the basic treadmill I gave away before purchasing the max. It works for interval/cardio-but again, it's boring.

I get a great workout every time I use it. The max interval training is great and I feel challenged each workout which doesn't always happen on cardio machines. The programs are great too! I love that it's pretty small and doesn't take up much room in my apartment! Overall love it!!

Comments about Bowflex MAX Trainer M5:

The first unit we received was noisy from the beginning. There was a loud clanking sound which we knew this wasn't right. Bowflex sent out a technician to repair and discovered that the unit was not repairable. Received new unit and it is perfect. So quiet. Even with the noisy one the workouts are quick and powerful. The biggest plus is the time, who can't squeeze in 14 minutes? I have been successful at using it 5 days a week with the exception of waiting on the new machine. Would recommend.

Great workout! We are not gym rats, but have been using this 4-6 times weekly. Product was easy to assemble with basic tools that were included in the packaging. This product is more compact than full size ellipticals, and workout is more intense than ellipticals as well due to the tread climber action. Sturdy base and smooth operation.

Only problem that I have with it is that the instructions to operate the electronic controls were not very clear, but with enough trial and error, we have been able to adjust the different programs to our liking.

My Husband and I both enjoy working out on ours, we bought the MAX Trainer M5 for our birthdays. I enjoy the Endurance training while he likes the steady pace workouts. We are both at different levels of training and I love with a push of a button I have a hard workout and he can do a lighter one. I recommend it to a lot of people. The down fall is the price, but the 0% makes it much more affordable.

Nice ergonomic design. Smooth and compact, great for smaller spaces, or otherwise. Can use as a high endurance cardio product, or notch up the resistance to build gluts, hamstrings & calves. The pre-program options offer solid workouts, and the max-interval is one of the best features of this unit!

We used to have an elliptical machine, but now that we have the Max Trainer we realized that our old workouts really weren't workouts at all. The Max Trainer makes you work, and in 14 minutes, you know you worked out. It's easy to find 14 minutes in your day to work out. Great piece of equipment looking forward to a healthier and better looking body!
